Parent & Caregiver Code of Conduct

Our athletics club is built on respect, encouragement, and teamwork. As a parent or caregiver, you play an important role in helping create a safe, positive, and enjoyable environment for all athletes.

Be Prepared

Ensure your child arrives 10 minutes before training and is ready to participate.

Make sure your child has:

  • A full water bottle

  • A hat and sunscreen when required

  • Appropriate clothing and footwear

  • Any equipment requested by the coach

Be Responsible

  • Parents or caregivers are responsible for their child before training begins and immediately after training finishes.

  • Children up to and including 8 years must have a parent or responsible adult present at training and club events unless alternative arrangements have been agreed with the club.

  • Ensure the club has up-to-date emergency contact and medical information.

  • Inform the coach if your child is unable to attend or has an injury, illness, or medical condition that may affect their participation.

Be Supportive

  • Encourage your child to do their best, have fun, and enjoy athletics.

  • Celebrate effort, improvement, and good sportsmanship rather than just results.

  • Support all athletes and treat everyone with kindness and respect.

  • Allow coaches to coach and officials to officiate without interference.

Show Respect

  • Treat coaches, volunteers, officials, athletes, and other families with courtesy and respect.

  • Use positive language and be a good role model for all children.

  • Raise any concerns respectfully and through the appropriate club channels.

Help Keep Our Club Safe

  • Follow club rules and safety instructions.

  • Help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

  • Report any concerns about safety or wellbeing to a coach or club official.

Parents and caregivers are expected to support this Code of Conduct and encourage their children to do the same. If concerns arise, they will be managed in accordance with the club's Behaviour Management and Safeguarding Policy.

Continued Unacceptable Behaviour

The club reserves the right, where necessary, to stand down an athlete from the athletics programme or stand them down from the competitive programme and place them in the social programme where ongoing behaviour significantly impacts the safety, wellbeing, or enjoyment of other athletes. Any such decision will be discussed with the athlete and their parent or caregiver and managed in accordance with the club's Behaviour Management and Safeguarding Policy.

Our Club Values

  • Be Prepared – Help your child come ready to participate.

  • Be Respectful – Treat everyone with kindness and consideration.

  • Be Responsible – Support your child and meet your responsibilities as a parent or caregiver.

  • Be Positive – Encourage effort, learning, and enjoyment of athletics.

Remember:  Children learn by watching the adults around them. By modelling respect, encouragement, and good sportsmanship, you help create a club where every athlete can thrive.
